One of the loveliest times of the year is on the horizon and Costa del Sol resorts are already decorated for the occasion. If you’re lucky enough to be spending some time in the south of Spain, don’t miss these six things to do at Christmas on the Costa del Sol.

See Europe’s best Christmas lights

The city of Malaga is famous for its Christmas lights, particularly those that line Calle Larios street from start to finish. The capital of the Costa del Sol has just been included in the list of the best European Christmas lights. See the light and sound show for yourself – every evening at 6.30pm, 8pm and 9pm until 6 January.

Visit Marbella Old Town

Marbella also has a great display of Christmas lights and there’s nowhere prettier to enjoy them than with a stroll round the Old Town. Wander the narrow streets and alleyways as you soak up the festive atmosphere and then take a walk down to the seafront via the Avenida del Mar with its big light display. Play a round of golf in the sunshine (and at the best price)

How does a game of golf in the sun sound? December in Marbella comes with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. Perfect for getting in a round of golf (or several) during Christmas on the Costa del Sol. And with Rio Real’s dynamic pricing, you are guaranteed the best deals. Find them here.

Enjoy a floral Christmas

Known as the flower capital of the Costa del Sol, Estepona pulls out all the floral stops at Christmas. This year, the resort has planted 15,000 festive flowers including thousands of ruby-red poinsettias and different coloured cyclamen. While you’re there, don’t forget to visit the murals and sculptures around the town.

Treat yourself to a stay in a boutique hotel

Give yourself the best Christmas present of all – a relaxing stay at the Rio Real Hotel where you’ll find all the right festive details. A roaring log fire, Christmas decorations, service with a smile, stunning views, special Christmas menus… Go on, treat yourself!

Do a bit of Christmas shopping

Christmas on the Costa del Sol wouldn’t be the same without a spot of festive shopping. One of the biggest Christmas markets takes place in Puerto Banús where lots of stalls sell arts and crafts, vintage goods and things for Christmas. Open daily 11.30am to 2.30pm and 4.30 to 8.30pm from 6 December to 6 January.

And if you’re looking for the perfect present for a golfer, don’t forget to pop into the Rio Real ProShop where you’ll find absolutely everything. From golfing equipment to clothes and accessories, you can find just what the discerning golfer would like for Christmas
